Commit Conversation: Kevin de Kovachich
Matt Dossett caught up with new hoops commit, Kevin de Kovachich!
Next season the Middle Tennessee State hoops team will have some new faces. Coach Nick McDevitt recently got a feather in the cap on the recruiting trail, landing transfer guard Kevin de Kovachich, out of North Alabama. As a sophomore at UNA, de Kovachich posted 12 points a game. He shot the three ball at a 34 percent clip and chipped in two assists, two boards and 1.5 steals a game. He also shot the ball at a 41 percent clip on field goals.
Prior to his stint at North Alabama, de Kovachich was at Hamilton Heights Academy.
De Kovachich entered his name in the portal from UNA on April 3rd. He pledged to the Blue Raiders on May 4. He is listed at a height of 6’4 and a weight of 185 pounds.
I caught up with de Kovachich, getting the inside track on what led him to Murfreesboro and why he opted to become a Blue Raider.
De Kovachich detailed that there was a moment in time when he knew that he wanted to become a Blue Raider.
“When I came on my visit and had conversations with the coaching staff and head coach,” he said.
“It really felt natural and hearing what the team was about and the way they saw me fitting the program. Everything felt perfect!”
De Kovachich has indeed been to the MTSU campus in Murfreesboro and has seen everything that the area has to offer. He said that he got the opportunity to see all the bells and whistles.
“I really enjoyed the campus tour,” he said.
“Beautiful campus, beautiful facilities, and also very nice different fields around the campus.”
De Kovachich detailed that he had a plethora of college options available, and that he weighed his options prior to committing to the Blue Raiders. He indicated that other teams were in hot pursuit of him.
“I had conversations with a lot of different programs in a lot of different conferences,” de Kovachich said.
“I talked with UAB, ECU, ETSU, and a few others, but MTSU felt like the best fit and the best situation for me.”
De Kovachich was quick to point out that he likes what he saw from Nick McDevitt throughout the recruiting process.
“Great man,” he said.
De Kovachich said that he had plenty of one-on-one time with the head man during his visit. He said that he also spoke to the head coach many times on the telephone.
“I had a lot of conversations with him during my visit there and over the phone and I am very excited to be coached by him!”
De Kovachich describes himself as a “Combo guard who wants to win more than everything else and can get down hill play make and shoot.”
