Commit Conversation: Tavares Ward
Matthew Dossett caught up with safety commit Tavares Ward!
Just in case you are not keeping score at home, Middle Tennessee currently has nine known commitments for the class of 2027. The class consists of: linebacker Joshua Echols, tailback Jayden Johnson, signal caller Hudson White, defensive back George Harris, tight end Ayden Ashlock, defensive back Tavares Ward, receiver Drew Rempel, receiver Lex Baskin, and kicking specialist Peter Hagey.
For this commitment conversation we switch gears and turn attention toward Tavares Ward.
Ward was offered by the Blue Raiders back in February and committed to Derek Mason and company on June 10.
Less than a month before he pledged to the Blue Raiders, Ward was offered by Delaware. He also has announced offers on X from Texas A & M, Missouri and Pittsburgh.
Right out of the gate, Ward indicated that he is being recruited by MTSU to be a strong safety.
Ward is quick to point out elements of his game that make him a versatile piece in the defensive backfield.
“I feel like I’m well rounded,” he said.
“ I can go up high and catch a pick, but also be the star player in the box and create a fumble.”
When questioned whether he has visited MTSU and the Murfreesboro campus, he replied: “Yes I did, I came junior day.”
Ward said that during his visited he got the opportunity to dissect tape in the film room.
“I watched practice/film and I loved physicality of the practice also love the facility.”
Despite having offers, Ward was adamant that MTSU clearly separated themself.
He said it was “nobody else, just MTSU.”
Ward said that there were two primary guys that he committed to.
“I committed to Coach Tyler (Monaco) and Coach Derek Mason,” he said.
“It was a very welcoming reaction I appreciated it a lot.”
Ward went on to make it clear that MTSU is the only school he has seen up close and personal.
“I didn’t take any other visits,” Ward said.
Ward said that he does indeed plan to visit MTSU and Murfreesboro on the fall, but that all the details and the particulars have not been ironed out.
He said that him and Coach Monaco will stay in contact and get those details hashed out.
“I haven’t discussed dates or anything with Coach Tyler yet,” he said.
