Signee Spotlight Hoops Edition: Kaleb Siler
Matt Dossett spoke to new hoops addition, Kaleb Siler!
Men’s hoops head coach Nick McDevitt has been wheeling and dealing in the offseason, adding players to try and bolster the roster, with a few guys transferring out of the program.
One key player added during the offseason window was big man Kaleb Siler. Siler pledged to Nick McDevitt and crew on April 14. He was officially signed, sealed, and delivered on May 29. He is listed at a height of 6’10, and a weight hovering around the 245 pound mark.
Last season as Gaston College, he was player of the year, newcomer of the year, and first team all conference in region 10. He averaged 18.7 points a game, 9.9 boards a game, and shot 64.5 percent from the field.
Since in the portal, Siler boasted offers from: MT, Missouri State, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, and Florida A & M. During his other recruitment he had offers from ODU, North Carolina A & T, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, ECU, Campbell, and UTSA.
Siler mentioned to me that his recruitment really came full circle.
“Honestly it’s crazy,” Siler said.
“I played against MTSU when I was at Western Carolina, my freshman year as a walk-on redshirt. I was watching the game and I seen how they played and the colors and the vice of the school. I said back then I would fit here for sure.”
“And then, luckily, two years later, I was blessed enough to get offered by them.
Siler said that there was one coach who spearheaded his recruitment. “Coach Logan Johnson offered me,” he said.
“I rock with Coach Lo, he’s a real guy who keeps everything straightforward and he won’t lie to you. And he’s a good good dude, who has good energy revolving around him.”
Siler said that his recruitment essentially boiled down to two programs.
“Missouri State and Middle were my last two options,” Siler said.
Siler detailed that he indeed visited Murfreesboro and the MTSU campus, and he said that he liked what he saw.
“I did come on a official visit and it went well,” Siler said.
“I like all the coaches, they were a funny group and meshed together and they were all realists,” he said.
“That’s something I always appreciate and I liked the campus and when it comes to development wise, for basketball, I felt this would be the best place for me.”
Siler went on to rattle off elements of his game, and detailing what he brings to the table.
“I would say I’m a more raw and unpolished version of Jokic, with some athleticism and some speed,” Siler said.
“I got solid touch around the rim and solid footwork to create openings to score and I just want to hustle, good things happen to those who played hard.”
