Target Talk: Aaron Austin III
Matt Dossett goes in-depth with 2027 defensive back target Aaron Austin!
We touched on it in a previous article, but it is worth throwing out there that recruiting defensive backs is in Coach Derek Mason’s wheelhouse. Mason has the pedigree when it comes to scouting and developing defensive backs. On May 15, Aaron Austin of Bryant High, in Bryant, Arkansas, took to social media to announce his offer from the Blue Raiders.
Austin currently boasts offers from the likes of: MTSU, Arkansas Tech, Northwestern Missouri State, North Alabama, Missouri State, Henderson State and the University of Monticello.
Prep Redzone has Austin listed as the number one defensive back in the state of Arkansas.
Austin indicated that he is a stalwart in the defensive backfield for Bryant, his high school.
“I play DB for my school I play corner,” he said.
He mentioned that he thinks he will have a smooth transition to college ball, and that MTSU sees him playing a similar role compared to what he plays in high school.
“MT is recruiting me as a corner also,” he said.
Austin said that his recruitment has primarily been handled by one specific coach.
“It was Coach O’Neil that offered me,” Austin said.
He said that he likes what he has seen from the staff, but has yet to actually chat with head man, Coach Mason.
“I honestly think they are pretty cool,” he said.
“I can’t wait to meet Coach Mason!”
Austin said that out of all the schools he is having dialogue with, MTSU is coming at him the hardest.
“Right now it’s just MT,” Austin said.
Austin mentioned that he does indeed see a visit to Middle Tennessee State on the horizon, but everything has not been ironed out.
“I plan to take a visit,” he said.
“This Summer we got to get it all together.”
As we approach the Summer months, Austin said that he does envision when he may pick a specific school.
“I plan to commit sometime this Summer, honestly,” he said.
Austin doubled down that MTSU is recruiting him the hardest and that he hasn’t heard from other schools who currently haven’t offered.
When asked about if there are others in his ear, he said “Not at the moment.”
Austin said that when it comes to ultimately picking a school, it will boil down to where he feels the most comfortable and which school covets him the most.
He said it will come down to “Mainly off of where I feel loved at.
