Target Talk: Mason McClure
Matt Dossett goes in-depth with 2027 prospect Mason McClure!
Make no bones about it, Coach Derek Mason and the Middle Tennessee State program is trying to bring in versatile offensive weapons for the class of 2027. One player who seems to fit that bill is Alabama native, wideout Mason McClure.
McClure now goes to Thompson High School, which is situated in Alabaster, Alabama. He transferred from Spain Park High, which is in Hoover, Alabama.
Last season McClure had 46 snags, for 1,107 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He has currently been offered by: MT, Alabama State, ETSU, Bowling Green, North Alabama, FIU, Miles, Alabama A & M, Colorado, Jacksonville State, South Alabama, TSU, UT-Martin, and Morehouse.
I got the opportunity to catch up with McClure, getting the scoop on his game as well as his recruitment.
McClure was recently offered by MTSU, and he indicated that there is one particular coach who in fact offered him.
“Coach O’Neil offered me,” he said.
“I love how honest and real he is. He’s been watching since he was at Oklahoma State. Always was honest about areas of growth and places I was killing it. Before the offer he became more of a mentor. So when I got the call he said he wanted to be the one to tell me.”
McClure mentioned that he didn’t really expect the offer from Middle, and that it kind of came out of the blue.
“I didn’t see the offer coming,” he said.
“I was heading to visit another school when my phone rung. The video has gone viral of the moment he offered me and it blew me away. It was special.”
McClure went on to divulge that MTSU certainly sees him as a wideout at the next level.
“I really believe I bring value to the program not just on the field,” he said.
“Every place I’ve been I’ve had to work hard and prove myself and not only did we win, but my teammates became better people. I love God and I try my best to be light everywhere I go. I pride myself on being a glue guy. The one that coach knows when times get tough I’ll show up.”
He said that the schools recruiting him the hardest are South Alabama, Colorado, Bowling Green and FIU. “Those are some amazing programs,” he said.
McClure said that he has indeed visited Murfreesboro and the MTSU campus.
“After visiting MTSU I was blown away,” McClure said.
“The new facilities are phenomenal. And coach Mason is someone i could see myself playing for.”
McClure mentioned that he does intend to take visits, but it is essentially to be determined.
“Currently setting up visits nothing locked in as of yet,” he said.
